In At the Park/ Family

JOY, Hope, Light {Expecting}

If you are in the high school sports world, you likely have heard of this guy below…Zach. However, few of you may know about the spark of JOY behind this guy! While he first birthed 270 Hoops, he and Lauren have been working on something much more special.

Let me introduce you to another side of Zach along with his beautiful wife…and baby Fleer.

It was a HOT, humid day when we met at the park. I was worried that Lauren would be miserable. I was pregnant with an August baby and remember how pitiful I was in the heat – especially towards the end. But this was my first time meeting Lauren, and I will be the first to admit she is tougher. I like to think of ways to help my clients be relaxed and comfortable. I asked if she wanted some cold water or to take a break in the car AC, she giggled and said, “No, I’m fine. I have been teaching middle schoolers in a non-air conditioned building all day.” As if that is something we all would find so much happiness in doing.

Well then, Lauren.

You go be superwoman.

Zach actually told me about you. He mentioned you were valedictorian of your high school class and had your Masters by the time you were 22. He also mentioned you played softball, love Jesus and have been on mission trips to Ecuador and Colorado. (Side note – I went to Ecuador with Athletes in Action in college too!!)

Oh – Zach also mentioned that you were….truly AMAZING.

These two were so tender and gentle with each other. I have mentioned before what a joy it is for me that photography often forces me get to be out in nature. It is so peaceful and a reprieve to get away from the stress of what we all see and feel in the media and elsewhere.

Add that peacefulness coupled with the sweetness of these two ~ and it was just lovely.

Now I cannot possible forget to mention the absolutely silliness and JOY emanating!!! THANK YOU! You two are a hoot! How many people can be so carefree and goofy in the middle of suffocating heat!?

Also how many people met the way you did?? Both having only one ticket to an OSU football game and just happening to sit next to each other….Hmmmm….You had to know you were getting involved in a lifelong partnership with something sports related.

There is no doubt Baby Fleer will be covered in love, JOY, fun and HOPE! I believe Lauren said her middle name is Hope and that because of some other circumstances, she represents hope to her parents. (Isn’t that so sweet?)

Zach wears a few bracelets….

One is John 8:12 which says, “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'” I know Zach seeks to be authentic with who he is and use the platform God has allowed him to be a light and encouragement to those he is around.

One is 2 Timothy 1:7 which says, “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” – such a good reminder…

The third bracelet used to say “God’s got this” but the words wore off. Isn’t that kind of like faith?? We know that God’s got this even when we can’t see exactly what He is doing at the time. We still can know the truth and that He is there.

Zach thanks for what you do in the community. Thanks for making it about more than hoops or the gridiron. Thanks for being authentic and seeking to reach kids hearts and matters that last far beyond the glory days of athletics. Lauren, thanks for being the quiet but dynamic woman you are. Zach is lucky to share life with you. Go continue to be light and spread joy and hope!! Praying for a healthy deliver for Baby and Mom!!! <3
